It’s certainly a different approach than I take now to wardrobe building! Then I collected every piece I would need to coordinate it effectively. I decided I had to have this AP dress and shortly after I saw it for sale secondhand so I jumped on it. The convention itself was highly mediocre, but I was mostly just excited to meet other lolitas so I had a good time. This photo was taken at the first edition of Osharecon, a jfashion convention in the Netherlands. Still no better in the posing department. Ita or not, it’s still pretty bad.Ĭoord 2, the first one I wore to a lolita event. Verdict: The white blouse + dark brown socks combination is… questionable, and overall there is no real sense of cohesiveness but I do think I succesfully avoided an ita phase. At this point in time my hair wasn’t very lolita-suitable, but I was also convinced that wigs were a requirement so I ordered a number from Lockshop, which was very popular at the time. That cream blouse with brown details would certainly have improved this coord, but alas. I ordered an Innocent World blouse too, but I got the wrong size and had to sell it. That wishy-washy approach led to this not-quite-classic, not-quite-sweet coord. My first purchase was from Innocent World, which was motivated primarily by their accessible and easy to order from website, rather than me particularly liking their aesthetic. I didn’t really think about what substyle or aesthetics I liked, I just wanted to wear a frilly dress and then I’d be happy. I had turned 18 not long ago and was in my final year of high school. My very first coord! I clearly did not know how to pose. When I was just getting started in the fashion it always inspired me to see the first coords of lolitas I admired. And of wearing my waistcoats more.I thought it would be fun to share my journey through lolita fashion in coords, as God knows I started in a place quite different from where I ended up. But I really like the results! Especially the "punk" coord because even though it's something I'd never really wear out it was also something I'd never even thought of and now I do have thoughts in the back of my mind about how to layer print and non-print items. Recently I did the Lolita Blog Carnival "one piece, five looks" challenge and even though the dress I chose was super versatile since I could change underskirts I still found it challenging to come up with radically different outfits. Pick an item and make as many outfits as you can. I've tried pie making and sewing, and sewing is definitely easier. Sewing really is easy as pie, once you master the basics. That lolita staple, the rectangle skirt, is incredibly easy and though following patterns can be a bit tricky sometimes you do get the hang of it. Sewing is actually fairly simple, especially if you're a practical or logical type of person. It's so much easier to finish of a coord exactly the way you want when you can make your own matching accessories, or even just make the whole outfit from scratch! And then you'll also have the added benefit of knowing that no-one else out there is wearing the exact same thing as you. Save and look at anything you want, but don't share it online ^_^ As both a photographer and a model, I really object to people posting my work around without even asking. Even when there's a disclaimer of "I don't own any photos on this blog" that still annoys me, because it's an acknowledgement that they're doing something wrong and don't care. Maybe I'm alone in feeling so strongly about it but people who just randomly post other people's pictures annoy me so much. Also, and I'm going to put this bit in bold because it really does matter that much save all the pictures you want for your own reference but never, under any circumstances, share them online without consulting the person who originally took and owns the photo. You can if you really want, but to me a lot of the fun in lolita is being creative with the way you dress. Of course, I'm not saying copy other people's outfits. I find that saving inspiring outfits, and especially outfits using pieces you own, is a great way of getting fresh ideas. There are hundreds of awesome coords saved, and some are sorted into folders according to the main items I own for quick reference. I have a gigantic lolita coord inspiration folder. Is it sweet? Is it punk-ish? No! It's a coord ^_^
